At Makaan Regional Center, we’ve guided hundreds of families on their journey to U.S. residency through the EB-5 program. Whether you're just starting your research or preparing to file, chances are—you’ve got questions.

Here are the Top 10 Questions we get from investors like you, answered with clarity, honesty, and experience.

1. What is the EB-5 Program, in simple terms?

It’s a U.S. government immigration program that allows you to get a Green Card by investing $800,000 (in a TEA project) and creating 10 full-time jobs for Americans. It’s one of the fastest and most direct routes to U.S. permanent residency.

2. Do I really need to invest $800,000?

Yes—for a Targeted Employment Area (TEA) project. If the project is not in a TEA, the minimum jumps to $1.05 million. At Makaan, we specialize in USCIS-designated TEA projects to help investors qualify at the lower amount.

3. Is my investment guaranteed to be returned?

No. EB-5 is an at-risk investment, meaning there can be no guarantee of return under U.S. law. However, we design our projects with downside protection and conservative exit strategies to prioritize investor security.

4. Where should the money come from? Can I use gifted funds or a loan?

Yes—gifted money or lawful personal loans can be used. What’s important is that you can fully document the legal source of the funds. Our team helps investors prepare compliant and compelling documentation packages.

5. How long will it take to get my Green Card?

It depends on your country of origin and visa backlog. For TEA investors, there’s now priority processing and reserved visa quotas, so timelines are improving significantly—often 12 to 24 months for conditional residency approval.

6. What if the project doesn’t create 10 jobs?

Job creation is the core of EB-5 success. That’s why we pre-structure projects with sufficient job buffers using independent economic models. Our track record: 100% job creation across all previous projects.

7. Do I have to live near the project or run the business?

No. EB-5 does not require day-to-day involvement or geographic proximity. You can live, work, or study anywhere in the U.S., independent of your investment.

8. Can my family members also get Green Cards through my EB-5?

Yes. Your spouse and unmarried children under 21 are included in your petition and receive the same Green Card benefits.

9. What if the EB-5 program changes after I invest?

Once your petition is filed and I-526E receipt is issued, you are grandfathered in under the existing rules—even if the law changes later. This protection was strengthened in the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act of 2022.
